Why do the regional Pikachu promos cost so much?
They were given away, or bundled, at one store for one occasion. SNKRDUNK’s February 2026 guide ranks Japan’s promos by growth in average transaction price for near-mint raw copies, first month after release against February 2026. Kanazawa’s Pikachu (a Special Box sold only for the Kanazawa opening) went from ¥3,500 to ¥65,800. Mega Tokyo’s Pikachu went from ¥16,000 to ¥140,000, Shibuya’s Pikachu from ¥6,000 to ¥38,500, and Tea Party Pikachu (Kyoto renewal) from ¥6,000 to ¥51,000.
Newer ones are on SNKRDUNK’s watchlist: Tohoku’s Pikachu (SV-P 260) from ¥12,100 and Hiroshima’s Pikachu (SV-P 261) from ¥18,300, both souvenirs of those stores, against Fukuoka’s from ¥20,000. These are SNKRDUNK’s own transaction numbers; the article does not explain its method, and they are Japanese-market prices, so they will not match US eBay sales. They do show the pattern: a store event, a limited number of cards, a Japanese collector base that keeps buying.
How hard are they to get from the US?
Harder than the price suggests. The Fukuoka Special Box was sold mainly by lottery on Pokemon Center Online and, per Buyee, “never hit the shelves of standard retail stores”; both lotteries have ended. Lottery entry needs a Japan-resident account, which is covered in can you enter the Pokemon Center Japan lottery from the US, and the wider shipping rules are in does Pokemon Center Japan ship to the US.
That leaves two routes. In-stock items can be ordered through a proxy that buys on the Pokemon Center site for you. Sold-out items come from resale: eBay in the US, Japanese card shops or Mercari Japan through a proxy. Fees and carriers are compared in Buyee vs ZenMarket vs FROM JAPAN vs Neokyo, and the venues in where to buy Japanese Pokemon cards. Cards from Japan to the US also carry the duty described in shipping from Japan to the US.
What about plush and apparel?
Cheap to buy, expensive to ship alone. OneMall’s page, checked 9 October 2026, shows Pokemon fit plush at ¥1,320 (Eevee) and ¥1,650 (Moltres, 82 g), a Gengar T-shirt at ¥3,850 and a Hatsune Miku collaboration hoodie at ¥7,700. The Pokemon Dolls plush line was partly sold out and the Lucario wind jacket was gone.
Add Pokemon Center Online’s domestic postage (¥550 under ¥6,000, free from ¥6,000), a proxy fee (OneMall charges 5% of the item price, minimum ¥200) and international postage. As an illustration only, with figures from different services: a ¥1,650 plush is about $10.50, plus about $3.50 domestic postage, about $1.30 in fees and, if sent alone by Japan Post EMS at ¥3,900 up to 500 g, about $25 for the parcel. That is roughly $40 for one plush before any duty. The 12.5% rate in our tariffs guide applies to cards; we did not check the duty rate for toys or clothing. Plush make sense only as filler in a parcel you were already sending.
Are the cards at risk of being fake?
Yes, and the risk grows with the price. SNKRDUNK’s guide warns that rising prices have brought high-quality counterfeits, and that spotting them by eye is getting harder. SNKRDUNK sells authenticated cards, so treat that advice with its commercial interest in mind. One practical consequence: the sealed Fukuoka box costs about $60 more than a raw Fukuoka’s Pikachu at the medians above, and that gap is what you pay for knowing the card is real. For raw copies, see how to tell if Japanese Pokemon cards are fake, and buy a card above a few hundred dollars graded or from an authenticated seller.
Best for
The cheapest way into a Pokemon Center promo: Fukuoka’s Pikachu raw, at a median of $92.86 in October 2026.
A sealed collector: the Fukuoka Special Box, at about $152 sealed. Check the last few sold listings first: September 2026 sales ran from $96 to $220.
The high end: Mega Tokyo’s Pikachu or Kanazawa’s Pikachu, graded, because the raw sales spread is wide and few copies sell.
Plush and apparel: order several in one proxy parcel, never alone.
Items sold only through Pokemon Center stores and Pokemon Center Online in Japan: regional Pikachu promo cards, special boxes tied to a store opening or reopening, plush and apparel. Many of the card items are not reprinted in English.
Are Pokemon Center Japan exclusives worth importing?
The cards are the strongest case on price history: SNKRDUNK's February 2026 averages show Kanazawa's Pikachu going from ¥3,500 to ¥65,800 and Mega Tokyo's Pikachu from ¥16,000 to ¥140,000. Plush are cheap in yen but expensive to ship one at a time. Past prices are not a forecast.
How do you buy Pokemon Center Japan exclusives in the US?
Directly, you cannot: Pokemon Center Online accepts Japanese delivery addresses only, and lottery entries need a Japan-resident account.
