What does each Japanese box cost at list price and in the US?

List prices are the pack price times the packs in the box (30 for standard sets, 20 for 151, 10 for High Class; see how many packs are in a Japanese booster box). US prices are TCGplayer market prices on 29 October 2026. Dollar figures use ¥157 to the dollar.

MSRP: ¥180 per pack for sets up to April 2026, ¥200 from May 2026 (The Pokemon Company; Folio for box totals). The multiples are our arithmetic, not a market figure. The Mega Dream ex High Class box is left out because we could not confirm its list price from a primary page.

Why is the US price higher than the Japanese list price?

Nobody publishes a breakdown, so these are the factors, not shares of the gap:

  • Scarcity outside Japan. Japanese stock goes to Japanese retailers first, and popular sets sell out at list price.
  • Shipping and duty. Cards shipped to the US pay a 12.5% duty from 24 July 2026 plus freight. See shipping from Japan to the US and tariffs.
  • Demand for the set. Sets with a chase card people want (30th Celebration, 151) carry a much larger premium than the others.

What do Japanese card shops charge?

Even in Japan, shops sell above list once the first print runs out. Cardrush listed these sealed boxes on 25 October 2026, as of that day:

Box MSRP Cardrush listed price Cardrush A- copy
Mega Symphonia ¥5,400 ¥8,980 (about $57) ¥8,480
Abyss Eye ¥6,000 ¥9,980 (about $64) ¥9,480
Storm Emeralda ¥6,000 ¥11,800 (about $75) ¥10,800

For 30th Celebration, SNKRDUNK’s lowest ask was ¥24,500 on 30 September 2026 (an ask, not a sale), against ¥7,200 at list. Cardrush and Hareruya2 blocked our fetches on 29 October, so the shop figures are four days older than the US ones.

Are Japanese boxes cheaper than buying from Japan yourself?

Sometimes. A Storm Emeralda box at Cardrush is about $75 before shipping, against $91.71 in the US, but international shipping and the 12.5% duty close much of that gap on a single box. Compare the landed cost, as in are Pokemon cards cheaper in Japan.

Questions people ask

How much is a Japanese Pokemon booster box?

The list price is ¥5,400 for standard sets released before May 2026 and ¥6,000 after, about $34 to $38. On TCGplayer the market price for the same boxes is $74 to $104 for most recent sets (29 Oct 2026).

Why are Japanese booster boxes more expensive in the US than in Japan?

Sealed boxes are scarce outside Japan, sellers add shipping, a Japan-to-US duty of 12.5% applies to cards from 24 July 2026, and popular sets sell out at Japanese retail. Hobby shops in Japan also charge above list: ¥8,980 to ¥11,800 for the three boxes we checked on 25 October 2026.

Can you buy a Japanese booster box at MSRP?

Only at the moment of release and only from Japanese retailers or Pokemon Center Online, often by lottery. Once stock sells through, shops and marketplaces charge above list. The Pokemon Company does not sell to US buyers at the Japanese list price.

Which Japanese booster box costs the most?

Pokemon Card 151 ($227) and 30th Celebration ($212) on TCGplayer market prices, as of 29 Oct 2026. They are the two sets whose US price is far above list price.
